Yankees Go To Bat For Samsung Charity

By TWICE Staff -- TWICE, 4/8/2005

Ridgefield Park, N.J. — The New York Yankees will once again help in the fight against domestic violence, partnering with Samsung’s Four Seasons of Hope charity effort and Circuit City.

Throughout the 2005 season, through the Circuit City-Samsung Electronics Home Run for Kids program, Circuit City will donate $1,000 to the Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation each time a Yankees player hits a home run at Yankee Stadium.Founded by Yankees’ manager Joe Torre in 2002, the Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation is dedicated to developing and funding educational programs that help end the cycle of domestic.

The Yankees television home, YES Network, will tally the home runs and money pledged during each game broadcast.

“We are proud to once again be a part of Joe Torre’s initiative to educate communities about preventing domestic violence,” said Peter Weedfald, senior VP, sales and marketing consumer electronics and North American corporate marketing, Samsung Electronics America, Inc.“The Circuit City-Samsung Home Run for Kids brings the Safe at Home foundation to the forefront with each Yankee home run, giving the hometown fans an even bigger reason to cheer for their favorite players.”

Joe Torre said, “I am grateful to Samsung and Circuit City for partnering again this year with the Joe Torre Safe at Home foundation. The Home Run for Kids program has made the foundation a household name and has empowered victims of domestic violence to create new lives for themselves.”

“Circuit City is honored to take part in the Home Run for Kids program again this year and help domestic violence victims start new lives,” said Doug Moore, senior VP, chief merchandising officer at Circuit City. “We’re looking forward to another great Yankee season and hope to see even more home runs hit this year.”

The promotion is part of Samsung’s Four Seasons of Hope, a year-round national goodwill program that brings together four sports legends and their respective charities — golf’s Arnold Palmer and the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Women and Children, football’s Boomer Esiason and the Boomer Esiason Foundation, basketball’s Magic Johnson and the Magic Johnson Foundation, and Torre’s foundation. Jon Bon Jovi has also joined Samsung’s Four Seasons of Hope as its official musician.

In addition to the Home Run for Kids, Samsung, Circuit City and Torre will team up for a National retail promotion that benefits The Safe at Home Foundation later this year.
