eMachines Ships Holiday Line Up

By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 10/7/2003

Irvine, Calif. - Entry-level PC maker eMachines unveiled its holiday line up earlier this month consisting of four new desktops, one of which is the first eMachines’ model to contain a DVD burner.

Fleshing out the introductions are a notebook computer and a pair of LCD monitors.

The two higher-end PCs are the T2825, with a $619 suggested retail price, and T2865, $719 — the latter model features a multiformat DVD drive capable of burning and reading the plus and dash formats. The company had delayed offering a rewritable DVD drive until some of the market confusion over the different formats was either relieved or until it could include a dual format drive without greatly increasing the PCs price. In another first for the company, each new model has an 8-1 flash media reader.

The T2825 and T2865 are similar, with each sporting the AMD Ahlon XP 2800+ processor, 512MB of DDR RAM, an AGP and a NVIDIA GeForce4 MX graphics card. The T2865 adds the DVD burner and has a 160GB hard drive and the T2825 has a 120GB hard drive and a DVD/CD-RW drive.

For its entry-level models, the company has retained its customary $399 starting price point, after $50 mail-in rebate.

The T2542 uses an Intel Celeron 2.5GHz processor and comes with 256MB of DDR RAM, a 40GB hard drive and a CD-RW drive. The step-up model is the T2682, which adds a slightly faster 2.6GHz Celeron processor, 80GB hard drive and a combo DVD-CD-RW drive for a suggested retail price of $479, after $50 rebate.

The new notebook is the M5312 wireless widescreen. It is a desktop replacement notebook powered by a Mobile AMD XP-M Athlon processor with QuantiSpeed architecture. It has 512MB of RAM, 60GB hard drive, DVD/CD-RW drive, ATI Radeon 320M graphics card, 802.11g wireless networking, USB 2.0 and 1394 ports. Its suggested retail price is $1,294.

The monitors are the 15-inch E15T and 17-inch E17T. Each is being offered with a $100 mail-in rebate, which brings their suggested retail prices down to $299 and $399, respectively.
