LG Bows NAS With Blu-ray Drive

By Staff -- TWICE, 1/8/2009

LG Electronics is introducing a network-attached storage device (NAS) with a Blu-ray burner and a computer monitor here at International CES.

LG's N4B1 NAS device features a built-in Blu-ray drive with burning capabilities. Targeted at home or small office users, the device offers data management with data archiving and automatic disk backup features. It can store up to 4TB of data.

According to the company, when users write to a Blu-ray disc, the N4B1 will automatically create a catalog of the disc's contents for easier archiving. The Blu-ray drive is said to be compatible with all types of CD, DVD and BD media with capacities up to 50GB.

The device is compatible with Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems. Users with different operating systems can share and store data through the device whether connected directly, on a network or over the Internet.

On the monitor side, LG is introducing its 53 series, said to be ideal for those who work with graphics-intensive applications. The monitors feature a 50,000:1 digital fine contrast ratio, a 16:9 aspect ratio and a 2ms response rate.

The line is available in sizes raning from 17 inches to 27 inches. The larger models, 22 to 27 inches, are said to offer Full HD 1080p resolution.

Like the manufacturer's line of HDTVs, the monitors feature glossy black cabinets.

Each comes with an HDMI cable for connecting to non-PC external video sources such as DVD players or video game consoles.

The monitors offer proximity sensors that illuminate touch-panel controls when the user's hand is near the panel. Another key feature will automically adjust the brightness of the display in relation to the ambient light in the room. Finally, a smart timer will allow the user to pre-set on- alarms for breaks or appointments.
