SmartDisk Intros FireLite Portable Drive

Staff -- TWICE, 1/8/2002

SmartDisk will introduce its new FireLite line of portable hard drives this week.

The FireLite line, a follow up to SmartDisk's FireFly series introduced last year, will come in 20GB, 30GB and 40GB capacities and can work with Windows and the Macintosh operating systems. The 6-ounce drives stand under a half-inch high and are 3.25-inches wide and 5-inches deep. The drives, which use a 1394 port to connect to a PC, are positioned to appeal to consumers and businesses, a company spokeswoman said. Primary uses for the drives are as a data transfer device, storing video and large graphics files and as a portable hard drive.

Suggested retail prices are $279 for the 20GB model, $349 for the 30GB drive and $429 for the 40GB version. All are expected to start shipping by the end of February.

SmartDisk will also introduce a USB 2.0 version of its current FireFly product.
