Samsung Adds New Digicams

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 2/26/2007

Samsung will ship three new digital cameras in the spring offering facial-recognition autofocus and image stabilization, the company said.

The 10-megapixel NV11 will be the fourth model in the company's high-end NV series. It features a 5x optical zoom Schneider lens, a 2.7-inch LCD screen with the company's Smart Touch interface, and light sensitivities to ISO 1,600.

The camera uses Samsung's Advanced Shake Reduction (ASR) electronic image stabilization system.

Additionally, it features face-recognition technology for detecting a subject's face and adjusting focus and exposure accordingly. It records VGA resolution MPEG-4 videos at 30 fps.

The NV11 will ship in the spring for a suggested $399.

The company also refreshed its wide-angle model. The new 7-megapixel L74 features a 28mm, 3.6x optical zoom lens in addition to a 3-inch touch-screen LCD, face recognition and ASR.

A new "tour guide" function uses the camera's 450MB of internal memory to store travel information on 30 countries and 4,500 regions — all accessible through the camera's LCD screen.

The camera can record SVGA quality MPEG-4 video with video editing available in-camera.

The L74 will retail for a suggested $349.

Finally, the 7-megapixel L77 sports a 7x optical zoom lens in a camera body that is .8-inches thick. It features a 2.5-inch LCD, ASR, in-camera image editing and the ability to record VGA resolution MPEG-4 video at 30 fps.

The L77 ships in the spring for a suggested $399.
