Chief Intros Automated Speaker Adapter

By Lisa Johnston -- TWICE, 6/18/2007

Chief's for flat-panel TVs is designed to replace the need for speaker stands. It also hides wires inside for a "seamless A/V installation," according to the company, making ideal for residential, commercial or hospitality applications.

Part of the company's Cinematic series of automated mounts, the CM4S57 reportedly integrates with a Chief flat-panel mount to provide a surround sound experience at the touch of a button.

The adapter extends speakers out from the flat panel up to 9 feet with adjustable set points to control travel, and returns speakers snug to the flat panel when in home position. The chain-driven technology is engineered for smooth movements, and is operated via IR remote. The mount can support flat-panel TVs up to 200 pounds and 25 pounds per speaker.

The CM4S57 is "easy to install," said the company, and it fastens directly to 16-inch studs with all mounting hardware included. It includes all components for 120V or 230V operation. To order the speaker adapter with a universal flat screen interface, users are advised to order the CM4S57U. A custom PSB interface bracket can be ordered separately if preferred at no additional cost.

The CM4S57 carries a $1,499 suggested retail.

Chief also recently announced that its steel stud mount kits and accessories are reportedly the first in the industry to be UL Listed.

The UL listing ensures that the mounting kits and accessories have achieved the safety standards set forth by UL. Chief said that it worked directly with UL to manufacture the "industry's first UL listed steel stud swing arms" for 10- to 50-inch flat-panel displays up to 125 pounds.
