Gefen Discounting HDTV Cables For HD Video Extension

By Staff -- TWICE, 5/9/2005

Gefen is discounting its HDTV Extreme cables, available in 33-foot, 50-foot, 66-foot, 75-foot, 100-foot, 135-foot, 210-foot and 330-foot lengths. Extreme cables are said to be suited for HDTV projection and computer video extension because these combine fiber optics components and copper wires in a single cable in which the electronics are part of the DVI connectors.

Gefen said sending the high resolutions of high-definition video beyond 15 feet from a computer or satellite set-top box to a display requires proper cabling and transmission techniques. Using an off-the-shelf cable may work for some systems, but users who demand high resolution often experience video pixilation that deteriorates the further the display is extended, said the company.

By making fiber DVI cables cost similar to the price of DVI copper cables, Gefen said it can offer “unparalleled video quality to 1,080p.” A user can go as far as 300 feet from the source using one convenient DVI-equipped cable, said Gefen.
