iHome To Expand With Shelf System

By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 6/5/2006

The success of iHome, a new division of SDI Technologies, here, illustrates the explosive growth of the iPod hi-fi stations.

In July 2005, iHome introduced its first iPod docking station, a clock radio initially sold through Target. By December, it shipped almost a million units. Soon enough, said SDI president Ezra Ashkenazi, the company became one of Apple's most popular licensees.

Since then the company expanded into numerous other iPod hi-fi stations and plans a multimillion TV and print advertising campaign for the back-to-school and Christmas selling seasons, Ashkenazi said.

New iHome products include a boombox and under-the-counter docking station for the kitchen. By fall, iHome plans to offer a 32-watt bookshelf system with a detachable wired subwoofer. The unit will display artist and song titles and work with most iPods, including the Shuffle. It will ship with an RF remote at an approximate suggested retail of $199.99.

This will be joined by a sports case with built in speakers and small amplifier. The unit encases the iPod and attaches to a bicycle or a jogging stroller. At $79.99, it will include a remote built into the outside of the case.
