Panasonic Bows Entry-Level Lumix

by Staff -- TWICE, 1/28/2007

Panasonic said it will ship a new entry-level L-series digital camera to dealers next month.

The 8-megapixel DMC-LS80 sports a new 2.5-inch "Intelligent LCD" that automatically adjusts its brightness based on ambient light levels.

An "intelligent mode" activates optical image stabilization, Panasonic's "intelligent ISO" mode for reducing blur, an automatic macro, and the company's "quick autofocus" mode that focuses the camera automatically before the shutter is pressed. The camera features a 3x optical zoom lens, ISO 6,400 and 24MB of internal memory.

The LS80 has a continuous shooting speed of 2.5 fps to seven full-resolution frames and a burst mode of 5.5 fps to a maximum of 100 2-megapixel images, depending on memory card speed. It offers widescreen movie recording at 848 by 480/30 fps.

The LS80 will be offered in pink, black and silver for a suggested $149.
