Secaucus, N.J. — A new Panasonic wireless home theater headphone provides two-channel stereo and 5.1-channel DTS surround sound and Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II and DTS-ES. The unit is designed to provide a “powerful” home theater experience or CD without disturbing others.
Called RP-WH5000, the headphone includes a built-in nickel metal-hydride rechargeable battery and a recharging stand. The unit is automatically turned “on” when placed on a user's head and turned “off” when removed.
The RP-WH5000 provides up to 20 hours of continuous listening on a full charge and transmits digital IR signals, so optimal sound is achieved. The wearer can roam up to 30 feet from the headphone recharging base and still maintain a clear signal, said the company.
The headphone, at a suggested $249.99 retail, offers high-quality reproduction due to a 20-20 (Hz-kHz) frequency response and 40mm drivers.
