$599 Sub Gets Room EQ

Morgan Hill, Calif. — Velodyne has begun shipping its lowest-priced active-subwoofer series to include built-in room-acoustics correction.

The DEQ-R series comprises the $599-suggested DEQ-8R, $699 DEQ-10R, $799 DEQ-12R and $1,099 DEQ-15R. Velodyne believes the models are the lowest-priced subs in the industry with room EQ. The company's previous opening price point for an active sub with room EQ was $1,299. The company's first active sub with room EQ debuted in 2003. Each DEQ-R model features five-band auto-EQ room bass-correction system, including microphone and remote control.

Wolverine Adds Internet Radio

Irvine, Calif. — Wolverine Data shipped its first tabletop radio, a networked device that accesses up to 15,000 free Internet radio stations through a broadband connection without requiring the use of a networked PC.

The World Radio, retailing at an everyday $179, also features UPnP (universal plug and play) and Windows Media Player 11 to stream music from a networked PC. It lacks AM/FM tuner but accesses local-station Internet streams. The radio is equipped with Ethernet port and embedded Wi-Fi, audio jacks to connect to a headphone or existing stereo system, handheld remote, and ability to sort stations and PC music by genre and country.

MCIA Offers Incentive

Beaverton, Ore. — The fledgling Media Center Integrator Alliance (MCIA) has begun offering an incentive to custom installers to sign up as charter members of the organization, whose mission is to drive awareness and adoption by the trade of Media Center-based home-installation systems.

By Nov. 30, installers who pay $500 for a charter membership good through December 2009 can submit one of their Media Center-based installations for packaging by the MCIA as a case study, which the installer can use for sales and promotion purposes. The one-page case study will include an analysis of the system design and how it helped improved a consumer's lifestyle. Installers will also get information on how to promote the completed case study in their regional market.
