Crutchfield Picks Up Dash PND

By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 5/8/2008

Charlottesville, Va. — Crutchfield has become the second retailer to sell the ground-breaking Dash Express personal navigation device (PND), which is the first PND to offer an Internet connection and also to deliver user-generated traffic reports.

The Dash Express, supplied by Dash Navigation, originally went on sale March 27 through Amazon.com at $399. The Dash Express is ranked No. 62. among Amazon’s top-selling GPS devices.

Dash Navigation would not comment on sales, except to say, “We’re real pleased” with the launch, according to marketing senior VP Robert Acker.

Crutchfield began selling the Dash Express on Monday at $399 with free shipping.

Through its cellular and Wi-Fi modems, the Dash Express not only delivers turn-by-turn directions but it monitors each of its user's road-speed data as they travel. It reports the road-speed information to other Dash users within minutes, creating local traffic reports, even on smaller back roads. Traditional PNDs provide traffic only on highways and major arteries.
