Allsop System Repairs Damaged Discs

Staff -- TWICE, 11/10/2003

The newest electronics maintenance product from Allsop, called Disc Restore, is a motorized technology device designed to repair damaged compact discs, DVDs and CD-ROMs. The system provides a solution to problems ranging from fingerprints to minor surface damage to more severe scratches — all of which can cause a disc to fail.

The Disc Restore system offers three levels of repair. Progressing through the levels until the disc is fixed, the process is intended to save time and ensure a disc gets only the repair it needs.

The first level involves surface cleaning, the second debris removal and eliminating minor scratches and the third uses a battery-operated polisher to correct more serious nicks and scratches on the disc surface.

The Precision Polisher focuses on the problem, eliminating the shotgun approach used by other scratch repair products. If the first two levels didn't fix the disc, it can go right to work on a specific scratch.

Allsop said some scratch repair products work on the assumption that a scratch somewhere on the disc is the cause of malfunction, when the reason actually may be a fingerprint or debris. These hand-crank units then require the entire surface of the disc to be "resurfaced," said the company.
