Canon Intros New Selphy Printer

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 1/17/2005

Canon made another addition to its Selphy compact photo printer line with the CES introduction of the CP-400.

The new portable dye-sublimation printer is a bit quicker than its CP-220 predecessor, producing a 4-inch by 6-inch photo print in 81 seconds. It ships this month for an estimated street price of $149.99.

The CP-400 produces credit-card size photos, photo stickers, photo labels and 4-inch by 8-inch photo greeting cards with an optional accessory paper cassette. The unit is PictBridge-enabled and offers two new print options: N-Up printing and fixed-size printing. The first allows users to create more than one smaller version of the same image on a single sheet, while the latter allows the users to preselect a dimension for the print even if it is different from the paper to be printed on. This lets users print a 3-inch by 5-inch photo on 4-inch by 6-inch paper.

The printer ships with software offering templates and clip art for personalized photo greetings, holiday cards, birth announcements and party invitations, among other projects.
