D-Link Bows 2.0 Upgrades For Its 802.11n Products

By Colleen Bohen -- TWICE, 5/21/2007

D-Link has made available 2.0 product upgrades for its Draft 802.11n Xtreme N product line.

The firmware and driver upgrades are said to be compliant with the latest version of the 802.11n specification, due out next year, and are certified to be compatible and interoperable with Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N. D-Link said in a release that it is the first to come to market with 2.0 upgrades.

"We're happy to be first to market with draft 2.0 11n products and to associate with Intel in delivering products and technologies that deliver on the promise of convergence in home networking communications," said A.J. Wang, D-Link's chief technical officer. "Introducing the next stage of technology with the 2.0 draft compliance along with passing Intel's rigorous pathway to certification validates the efforts that D-Link has invested in its products to meet the 802.11n specification in terms of high speed, extended range, reliability and interoperability."

According to a release, the company's original 1.0 products and 2.0 upgrades are based on the trademarked Atheros' XPAN draft 11n technologies which use Clear Channel Assessment for the protection of legacy devices.

D-Link's newly available products include the:

  • Xtreme N Gigabit router, model DIR-655 (SRP $179);

  • Xtreme N PCI Express desktop adapter, model DWA-556 (SRP $149);

  • Xtreme N notebook ExpressCard, model DWA-643 (SRP $119);

  • Xtreme N desktop adapter, model DWA-552 (SRP $141); and

  • Xtreme N notebook adapter, model DWA-652 (SRP $119)

According to D-Link, upgrades for the rest of its draft 802.11n products will be available this quarter. For more information on the entire D-Link Xtreme N line, visit www.dlink.com.
