2007 PC Shipments On Track: iSuppli

By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 8/20/2007

Led by notebook computer sales, worldwide computer shipments will increase 11.2 percent in 2007, according to iSuppli's midyear forecast.

The projection has computer shipments meeting iSuppli's initial estimate made earlier this year.

The research firm based its forecast on Intel's second-quarter financial results, which showed the chip giant with record microprocessor shipments, and the fact that the second half of the year generally accounts for about 53 percent of a year's total computer sales.

The company also noted that while notebooks are the leading driver behind shipments, desktop PCs shipments showed encouraging improvement compared with 2006.
