ASP OmniSky Upgrades Browser

Staff -- TWICE, 4/30/2001

SAN FRANCISCO — Wireless ASP OmniSky has licensed the Handspring Blazer browser and proxy server to improve the wireless Internet services delivered to wireless-enabled Palm OS-based PDAs.

OmniSky will incorporate the Blazer browser technology in the next version of its application software, likely due in the summer, to accelerate text and graphics downloading so that the first screen of almost any Web site will appear in less than five seconds.

The software will also access more Web sites than any other wireless service for Palm OS handhelds, the company said, because it supports the HTML, WAP, WML, and xHTML web-content standards, as well as image formats such as GIF and JPEG. The software will also provide support color downloads for the Handspring Prism handheld as well as support frames, cookies and SSL security.

To speed up browsing, Handspring's Blazer technology lets users immediately begin viewing content while the rest of the Web site is downloading.

OmniSky is the first licensee of Blazer.
