Dell Bows Inspiron Mini 9

ROUND ROCK, TEXAS — Dell has officially unveiled its Inspiron Mini 9, a miniature entry-level notebook that runs on Intel's Atom processor, designed to compete with ultra-mobile PCs (UMPCs) like Asus' Eee PC.
A Windows XP-based version of the Inspiron Mini 9 is available now starting at $399, and in a few weeks the company plans to introduce a Linux Ubuntu 8.04-based version featuring a custom Dell-developed interface with a starting price of $349.
Weighing in at slightly more than 2 pounds, the Mini features solid-state drive (SSD) memory storage, an 8.9-inch glossy LED display featuring a 1,024 by 600 resolution and a sealed keyboard. The device features standard built-in Wi-Fi and can come equipped with an optional built-in Web cam or built-in Bluetooth compatibility.
To compensate for the device's lack of internal storage space, Dell partnered with Box.net to offer Web-based file storage to Inspiron Mini users. The free basic plan offers 2GB of remote storage space, expandable to 25GB.
According to Dell, its custom Designed for Dell accessories line will feature Mini-specific products to complement the device.
