Apple Opening Fourth Store In New York City

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 5/7/2007

Apple will open its third company-owned store in Manhattan.

The latest freestanding location will be at W. 14th Street and Ninth Avenue, within the borough's trendy Meat Packing district. No opening date was announced, and a company spokesperson could not confirm the store's size or configuration.

The new store will join existing Manhattan units in SoHo and on Fifth Avenue. The latter, situated at E. 59th Street near Central Park, serves as the chain's flagship location. Opened last May, the 25,000-square-foot facility was built underground, and its above-ground entrance is marked by a 32-foot glass cube.

Apple has a fourth New York City store, located within a shopping mall in the borough of Staten Island.

In other computer retailing news, Fry's Electronics opened its second store within the Sacramento, Calif., market and its 34th location nationwide.
