1 Billion Bluetooth Devices & Counting

By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 11/14/2006

Bellevue, Wash. — The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) announced today that the billionth Bluetooth device has shipped to consumers.

Weekly shipments of Bluetooth products are continuing at a pace of 12 million per week, said the Bluetooth SIG, noting that the most popular of these devices are cellphones.

“To put this number in perspective, one billion is greater than the number of PC users in the world and equal to the number of mobile phones shipped this year,” said Michael Foley, executive director, Bluetooth SIG.

Foley said the SIG’s goal is to reach 2 billion unit shipments for one year by 2010.
