Adobe Intros Photoshop Lightroom
By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 1/29/2007
San Jose, Calif.— Adobe said today that it would ship its Photoshop Lightroom software by mid-February.
The program, geared principally at professional photographers and avid amateurs, lets users import, manage and present large numbers of digital images. It offers support for over 150 RAW image file formats (including the recently released Nikon D40 and Pentax K10D) in addition to JPEG and TIFF images.
Lightroom lets users sort large batches of high-resolution images through keyword filters or a metadata browser. It can also perform editing to eliminate the effects of d-SLR sensor dust on images.
The official launch of Lightroom followed a 12-month public beta testing program in which over 500,000 photographers pitched in comments and suggestions to help shape the final product, Adobe said.
Adobe will sell the software on its Web site for $199 through April 30, after which it will be available at retail for a suggested $299.
