Canon To Debut Two Entry-Level Digital Cameras

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 1/29/2007

Canon will ship two new entry-level A-series PowerShot digital cameras to dealers in February, the company said.

Both of the cameras will support the new SD High Capacity (SDHC) memory-card format and use the company's AiAF autofocus system. They will include a 16MB MMC card and a pair of AA alkaline batteries.

The 7-megapixel A550 sports a 4x optical zoom lens, 2-inch LCD, 11 scene modes, Canon's DIGIC II processor and the ability to capture VGA resolution video clips at 30 fps. It offers a longer battery life than its predecessor, the A530, and incorporates a redesigned mode dial that fronts five scene modes and an automatic mode for easier access.

The A550 will retail for an estimated $199.

The 5-megapixel A460 (which replaces the A430) also offers a 4x optical zoom, a 2-inch LCD screen, DIGIC II and 10 scene modes. It will retail for an estimated $149.
