CEA Campaigns To ‘Convert Your Mom’

By TWICE Staff -- TWICE, 4/3/2008

Washington —The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) is launching the “Convert Your Mom” public awareness campaign starring actress Florence Henderson in an attempt to help seniors prepare for the upcoming February 2009 over-the-air television transition.

“We know that one of the best ways to reach seniors is through their families,” said Gary Shapiro, CEA’s president/CEO. “With ‘Convert Your Mom’ we’re asking baby boomers to help make sure everyone is ready well in advance [of the analog cutoff date].”

According to a release, the campaign will begin with a satellite media tour hosted by Henderson in early May. CEA said it will also feature a downloadable guide and tips for preparing for the digital TV transition, “among other elements.”

The organization said that the campaign will remind viewers who depend on an antenna and an analog TV set that they have choices if they want to continue receiving free over-the-air television including:

1.       Buying a new TV with a built-in digital tuner

2.       Subscribing to a pay-TV service like cable or satellite TV

3.       Purchasing a digital TV converter box.
