Sony Adds HTiB Models

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 2/27/2007

Las Vegas — In addition to unveiling three BRAVIA home theater in a box (HTiB) systems, Sony unveiled four additional models, including three that are component based and one that is integrated into a TV stand.

The prepackaged component systems include the HT-7100DH (ships in March at a $500 suggested retail), the HT-DDW990 (May, $300) and the HT-DDW790 (March, $200), which all include five satellite speakers and an 8-inch subwoofer. Included on each is a portable audio input and Digital Cinema Auto Calibration. The latter simplifies surround sound setup with the use of an included microphone to properly balance the channel mix in a room.

The HT-7100DH and the HT-DDW990 systems both have 900 watts of total power (1kHz, 10 percent total harmonic distortion), two HDMI inputs for signal pass-through, and Sony’s Digital Media Port.

The HT-7100DH also adds a five-disc DVD/CD changer with HDMI connectivity and is XM connect-and-play ready.

The RHT-G800 (shipping in May for $1,000) offers a home theater system integrated into a TV stand. Included are dual 1,080p-capable HDMI inputs and one output, and the ability to handle up to seven channels of uncompressed linear PCM audio with support for 1,080p-capable televisions and Blu-ray Disc players.

The system incorporates a concealed 5.1-channel surround sound speaker package, S-Master digital amp and Sony’s S-Force Pro front surround-sound processing.

Sony also unveiled four accessory products designed to connect to the Digital Media Port of the new HTiB systems. These include a Bluetooth audio adapter to accept audio from enabled devices, a wireless network audio adapter for wireless streaming of music from a PC and cradles for select Network Walkman and iPod digital music players.

The TDM-BT1 Bluetooth wireless audio adapter will ship in March at an $80 suggested retail. The TDM-NW1 will ship in March at $50. The TDM-iP1 iPod cradle will be available in May for around $100 and the TDM-NC1 wireless network adapter will ship in June for around $200.
