Stern Gives Away Sirius Radios

By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 11/18/2004

New York — Shock Jock Howard Stern put in a public appearance at Union Square Park here today to promote his switching over to Sirius Satellite Radio.

Stern spoke before a crowd of New Yorkers and gave away 500 Sirius Audiovox receivers and boomboxes, each with a three-month complementary subscription to Sirius. Also distributed at the event were 20,000 certificates to receive a free Audiovox receiver and Audiovox car or home kit with the purchase of a one-year subscription to Sirius.

"We applaud Howard’s generosity today and know that people will enjoy their Sirius satellite radios," a Sirius statement said. "As we have said in the past, we are delighted Howard will be joining Sirius, and we look forward to expanding the scope and diversity of Sirius programming with Howard."

In October, Sirius signed a five-year agreement with Stern to develop up to three channels of programming for Sirius beginning January 2006. Stern is the No. 1 national radio host among males 18 to 49 years old with an estimated following of about 11 million to 12 million listeners.
