Iomega Focuses On Storage

LAS VEGAS — Iomega introduced several new mass storage devices at CES, including a stripped-down triple interface external hard drive.
Jennifer Burt, Iomega's senior product manager, said the Silver Series HD storage line, shipping next week, will be presented as nothing more than extra storage capacity. Iomega's other external HD drives are bundled with backup software that automatically goes into a PC and properly duplicates and backs up all files. The Silver Series requires that the user handles that task manually.
The drives can connect via FireWire 800, FireWire 400 and USB 2.0.
The connected drives will come in 160GB, 250GB and 400GB capacities with pricing starting at $130, Burt said, adding the final pricing configuration has not been set by the company.
The Platinum Series, which will be available in the same storage capacities as the Silver models, adds Iomega's Automatic Backup software that provides real-time backup and a disaster recovery application. The units will ship next week with price points of $199 for the 160GB, $279 for the 250GB and $429 for the 400GB.
Iomega also showed its mini hard drive system that starts shipping in February. The drive is centered on a 2.5-inch disk and the line will be comprised of four models of 40GB, 60GB, 80GB and 100GB capacities. Burt said prices will range in price from $179 to $499.
Also hitting retail next month is a new Iomega Super DVD drive. The drive can burn the Plus, Dash and RAM formats. The company redesigned the case giving it a black finish. Pricing has not been set.
The final new product is a networkattached storage line for the home or small business. The NAS 1000 comes in 160GB and 250GB versions equipped with 802.11g, enabling it to become a wireless access point. It has respective street prices of $499 and $599.
