CEDIA Expo 2008: SunBriteTV Adds Outdoor 1080p LCD TVs

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 9/5/2008

SunBriteTV (booth 134), a supplier of all-weather TV technology, is using CEDIA to show a 46-inch all-weather 1080p LCD TV and a 32-inch 768p HD LCD TV.

Models 4610HD and 3220HD are said to have been specifically designed and engineered for outdoor installations. Both use corrosion-resistant, powder-coated aluminum exterior cabinets that protect the internal components from extreme weather and temperatures ranges, the company said.

"SunBriteTV all-weather outdoor TVs are a great fit for integrators and installers who want to expand their businesses to include the residential outdoor TV and video entertainment markets," stated Lynn Stearn, SunBriteTV's sales VP.

The Moorpark, Calif.-based company's TVs feature baffled and filtered airflow systems that keep the TVs cool in temperatures up to 124 degrees. Cooling is accomplished using a variable fan-speed, controlled by the TVs internal thermostat. Fan noise was said to be minimal. In extremely cold climates, the interior heater activates automatically when the TV's internal temperature dips to 32 degrees. The heater provides a 20 degree temperature rise, allowing the TV to safely remain outdoors in temperatures as low as -24 degrees Fahrenheit.

SunBriteTV also employs a watertight cable-entry system and cable pass-through design to facilitate quick and easy hook-up to a wide selection of video inputs, including two HDMI ports, component video, VGA, S-Video, composite, RF, RS232 serial and the discreet IR control.

SunBriteTV said it uses a fiber-optic light path to install an IR emitter behind the water-tight cable door, and conceal it from view.

Water-resistant detachable speaker modules can to be removed when the TV is integrated with an external sound system, and the operating controls are also sealed against rain and moisture.

The 46-inch LCD screen on model 4610HD is full-HD 1080p, and displays a bright 1,920 by 1,080-pixel image with 2000:1 contrast ratio. The 32-inch LCD screen on model 3220HD is also HD-compatible and displays a bright 1,366 by 768-pixel image with 1500:1 contrast ratio.

SunBriteTV offers optional ceiling mounts and articulating wall mounts to enable horizontal extension, lateral rotation, tilt and swivel functions. A deck/planter pole mount is also available for additional backyard placement options.

SunBriteTV also plans to show a 23-inch all-weather HD LCD TV, model 2310HD.

All three SunBriteTV models are shipping to authorized dealers now, the company said. Model 4610HD carries a $5,495 suggested retail, model 3220 carries a $3,295 suggested retail and model 2310HD has a $1,995 suggested retail.
