BlueAnt Intros Upgraded Bluetooth Headset

By Lisa Johnston -- TWICE, 8/18/2008

BlueAnt Wireless introduced the Z9i Bluetooth headset earlier this summer.

The Z9i is described by BlueAnt as an enhanced version of the company's Z9.

Now able to connect with up to five Bluetooth devices — the Z9 could connect with just three — the Z9i features Multipoint technology, which is designed to allows users to connect simultaneously to two phones and answer the one that rings. It has 2.4GHz technology and has an operating range of approximately 30 feet.

It also has large and small interchangeable ear gels and two types of ear hooks: translucent or rubberized metal. Measuring 1.5 inches and weighing 0.35 ounces, the Z9i has a listed talktime of 5.5 hours, with 200 hours of standby time.

BlueAnt said it also adjusted its Voice Isolation technology software to improve the Z9i's noise-suppression, echo-cancellation and wind-noise-reduction capabilities. As with the Z9, users can choose between dual Voice Isolation modes, Blue Ant said. The "standard" mode can be used in normal environments to remove mild background noise, and the "max" mode is designed to provides superior voice clarity for use in extremely noisy environments.

Other features include the company's Voice Isolation technology, two microphones, automatic connection and reconnection with notification, different ringtones for known and unknown contacts, and a tie clip for when the headset is not in use.

The Z9i is available in two colors — soft-touch red and gloss block — for a $99.95 suggested retail.

It is currently shipping.
