Best Buy Re-considering Macs

Minneapolis, Minn. – Apple computers may be returning to Best Buy stores following an eight-year absence.

The No. 1 CE retailer is currently testing Macs in seven stores and may expand sales across the chain, the company revealed during its annual meeting this week.

The Macs, which began appearing last month in stores in Los Angeles, San Diego and Las Vegas, are being sold by Apple-trained Best Buy sales staffers, said senior VP/merchandising David Morrish. The assortment reportedly includes Mac minis, iMacs and MacBooks.

Morgan Stanley analyst Rebecca Runkle projected that Best Buy could sell 100,000 Macs and generate $160 million in annual revenue for Apple if it takes the program system-wide.
