The $249 Pixma iP100 offers higher color resolution at 9,600 by 2,400 dpi with 1-picoliter droplets and quicker printing speeds than previous models, the company said.
The iP100 will use two black inks, a pigment-based ink for text and another cartridge for photos. Canon has boosted the pigment black ink cartridge by 50 percent vs. the previous model.
The printer can apply automatic image corrections to photos when used with a laptop via its Auto Image Fix feature. It boasts print speeds of 20 pages-per-minute (ppm) for black and 14 ppm for color. It supports borderless photo printing in 4-inch by 6-inch, 4-by 8-inch, 5 by 7-inch, 8 by 10-inch and letter sized.
The unit features an IrDA port and works with an optional Bluetooth adapter ($49) for printing photos from mobile phones. Additional accessories include a 290 page-per-charge battery for $99, and an automobile power unit (PU-200U) for $89.
