Dell Posts Lower Q3 Sales, Net

ROUND ROCK, TEXAS — Dell reported lower revenue and net income during its fiscal third quarter, ended Oct. 31.
Revenue was down 3 percent to $15.16 billion compared with the previous year's quarter, with net income down 5 percent to $727 million, from $766 million the previous year.
However operating income jumped 22 percent to $1.01 billion from the previous year's $829 million.
Michael Dell, chairman/CEO, was pleased with the company's performance given the economic environment, according to a prepared statement.
In net revenue by region the Americas is still about half of Dell's business, at 48 percent for the quarter, but actual revenue decreased 8 percent from the previous year, to $7.2 billion, from $7.8 billion.
However, in consolidated operating income, the Americas grew from $663 million during last year's third quarter to this year's $763 million.
