More Satellite Home Radio Options Due

By Joe Palenchar -- TWICE, 9/14/2004

Indianapolis — High-end audio supplier Krell will enter the satellite-radio market with an XM tuner option for a planned custom-installation product, and Russound plans a Sirius Satellite Radio option for one of its custom-install components.

The announcements were made at the CEDIA Expo.

In the first quarter of 2005, Krell plans to ship a $4,000-suggested Trio three-source tuner. It will incorporate AM/FM tuner, optional modular XM tuner and optional modular Internet radio tuner, which will stream Internet radio via an 802.11g wireless connection to a broadband modem. Custom features include three-source, three-zone capability, RS-232 port, discrete IR commands for each source and rear-panel IR jack.

For its part, Russound signed an agreement to offer Sirius hardware at an unspecified date. Russound plans a Sirius tuner that can be incorporated in its ST2 dual tuner, which is available in two versions. One version features two AM/FM tuners at $699; the other features one XM tuner and one AM/FM tuner at $999.
