RadioShack Debuts Free Ship-To-Store Service

By Colleen Bohen -- TWICE, 2/1/2007

Fort Worth, Texas — RadioShack has unveiled a new e-commerce initiative that provides free shipping for orders from its Web site, www.RadioShack.com, to a customer’s local brick-and-mortar RadioShack location.

The pilot launch of the Ship-to-Store program is currently being tested in 1,300 locations in the U.S., but the retailer expects to make the service available in all of its locations nationwide at some point early this year.

“We know the hassle and worry associated with shipping high-end electronics and accessories when there is no one at home. Now our customers can order online and enjoy free shipping to a RadioShack location of their choice,” said Cara Kinzey, RadioShack’s senior VP of information technology.

The Ship-to-Store service will only be available for certain products. The company noted on its site that some larger items like home entertainment systems and large flat-panel TVs won’t be eligible because “many customers may not have the equipment necessary to transport larger items to their homes.” All eligible products will be denoted on the site with the Ship-to-Store logo.

According to the retailer, the free delivery option should mean that the customer’s order will arrive at the designated store within three to eight business days. The site also states that consumers can pay to expedite the process by using any of the other methods listed for the specific product.

Once the product arrives at a store, the company guarantees it will be kept at the store for up to 14 days after the initial e-mail signaling that the order is ready for pick up is sent. If the order remains unclaimed beyond that point, the store will return the items to the warehouse and the consumer will receive credit for the item within 10-15 business days.

Consumers can locate their nearest RadioShack store on the Web site’s store locator. Ship-to-Store locations will be identified with a red icon to the right of the store’s address.
