Ooma Introduces VoIP Hub

By Lisa Johnston -- TWICE, 9/3/2007

Designed as a "digital voice appliance" for making phone calls over a broadband connection, the Ooma Hub — introduced by the company with the same name — enables users to make unlimited U.S. calls.

Beginning in September, consumers will be able to purchase the Ooma Hub from the company's Web site for $399. Along with unlimited U.S. calls, the purchase includes the company's Instant Second Line and Broadband Answering Machine features.

Users who wish to make overseas calls can prepay international minutes in the Online Ooma Lounge, said Tish Whitcraf, customer experience and operations VP. The Lounge is "a destination for users to manage their account," said Whitcraft, and it also provides access to voicemails and the ability to set up profiles.

Consumers will have the choice of purchasing a landline or a non-landline version of the Ooma Hub when it launches. Whitcraft said that selling to retailers is something that's on Ooma's "roadmap for 2008," but it will be availble only from the company when it launches.

E911 will be offered with the landline version of the Ooma Hub.
