TCL Smart TVs Add Hillcrest's Motion Control

Rockville, Md. - China-based electronics manufacturer TCL Multimedia (TCL) will use Hillcrest Lab's Freespace motion-control software for forthcoming TCL Android-based smart TVs, including the flagship V7500 Android 4.03 smart TV and motion-sensing remotes due later this year.

The companies said the TCL smart-TV system will be available in China this month before rolling out to other markets later this year.

Record CES '12 Attendance, Says Indy Audit

Arlington, Va. - The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), owner and producer of International CES, welcomed a record 156,153 industry professionals at the 2012 International CES, according to an independent audit.

There were also 3,319 exhibitors from around the globe that unveiled new technology products at CES, a 22 percent increase over last year's show.

In addition, a record-number of international professionals -- 35,734 -- attended the show from more than 150 countries, representing an increase of 13 percent over last year.

Verizon Adding Global-Roaming LTE Devices

Basking Ridge, N.J. - Verizon Wireless is expanding the number of 4G LTE devices that can roam in an expanded number of countries.

 The carrier announced May 24 availability of its second LTE-equipped USB modem with global roaming capability and announced that four LTE Android smartphones will get over-the-air updates sometime during the summer to give them global-roaming capability.

Seoul, South Korea - LG Display said it broke ground Tuesday on a Gen 8 thin-film-transistor LCD panel plant in Guangzhou, China.
