Whirlpool is moving beyond room air conditioners to offer additional air-treatment products through a newly created business unit called Whirlpool Air Treatment.
Headed by brand manager Mike Ambos, the new Whirlpool operation initially is marketing the company's recently introduced Whispure air purifier line, unveiled at the January Housewares Show in Chicago. Other air-treatment products are expected to be introduced in the future.
The four Whispure models, which use 3M's Filtrete True HEPA filter, are said to filter the equivalent of a roomful of air every 10 minutes. The air purifiers, designed for quiet operation, range in size from 150 to 450 square feet and will be sold through Whirlpool's traditional appliance retail distribution. Suggested retail prices are $139 to $299.
"Whirlpool is focused on delivering to our customers innovations that respond to their family's changing needs," said Mike Todman, sales and marketing senior VP for Whirlpool North America. "The Whispure is another example of Whirlpool's innovation in response to consumer demand. In fact, we see our air-treatment line as an exciting addition to the Whirlpool family of products that we hope to expand even further in the near future."
