Cleveland - Frigidaire has voluntarily recalled three series of clothes washers due to a possible fire hazard.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), an internal defect in the washers' drain pumps can cause heat to build up, posing a fire hazard to consumers.
The recalled washers include top-load, 3.1-cubic-foot front-load, and laundry center combo-models that were sold between February and May under the Crosley, Frigidaire, Kelvinator, Kenmore, Wascomat and White-Westinghouse brands.
The recall affects about 35,000 units, which were manufactured in the U.S. and sold nationwide by Sears and other retailers for between $300 and $1,100.
No incidents or injuries have been reported, but the CPSC is advising consumers to unplug the units and contact Frigidaire or Sears (if purchased there) to schedule a free repair. Both companies have established toll-free hotlines and dedicated Web pages to field repair requests.
