Englewood Cliffs, N.J. — LG Electronics USA is rolling out what it describes as the industry’s first top-load steam washer to feature a certified anti-allergen cycle.
LG’s Allergiene steam system, which it debuted in a front-load configuration in 2008, is certified “asthma & allergy friendly” by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA).
Like its predecessor, the new washer, model WT6001HVA, was tested and validated as capable of killing dust mites and removing residual allergens. The steam function also provides improved cleaning and reduced wrinkling, LG said.
The high-efficiency top-loader is Energy Star-qualified, smart-grid ready, and also incorporates smart technologies that allow users to monitor, control and enhance its operation remotely with mobile phone applications via Wi-Fi. Smart capabilities include remote commands and notifications, added cycle downloads, and offsite troubleshooting.
Its companion electric and gas smart dryers (models DLEX6001V and DLGX6002V, respectively) similarly feature technology that generates real steam to reduce odors and virtually eliminate the need for ironing.
The units are shipping now to select regional dealers and are expected to be available nationwide during the second quarter.
