Cleveland — LG Electronics has become the first white-goods manufacturer to have its refrigerators certified by CSA Group for meeting a new sustainability standard for household refrigeration appliances.
CSA is an independent, not-for-profit membership association, based here, that is dedicated to safety, social good and sustainability. The group worked closely with the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) and others to develop the environmental standard, which was announced in Washington in June.
Nine LG refrigerators meet the new industry standard, which factors in materials, manufacturing and operations, energy consumption during use, product performance and end-of-life impact. The fridges, which range from French door configurations to LG’s new ThinQ “smart” models, will bear CSA’s sustainability mark as well as its certification mark for safety and performance.
“Environmental sustainability has become as important to our customers as it has been to our company for a long time,” said Chris Jung, LG’s home appliances president of LG Electronics USA. “Together with CSA Group, LG is leading the way in addressing various aspects of the product’s lifecycle.”
Noted CSA president/CEO Ash Sahi: “As the first manufacturer with not one, but nine new refrigeration products certified to this new standard by CSA, LG is demonstrating to consumers that these products meet the requirements of the standard throughout their lifecycle and go well beyond simply meeting the traditional energy performance benchmarks.”
AHAM president Joseph McGuire added that the new standard and others to follow “represent a strong commitment to sustainability and provide workable tools for appliance purchasers to compare the environmental attributes of appliances.”
LG’s CSA-certified refrigerators include models LFX31925ST, LFX31925SB, LFX31925SW, LFX31915ST, LFX31915SB, LFX31915S, LFX31995ST, LFX31945ST and LFX31935ST.
