GE Rolling Out Expanded Slate Line

Louisville, Ky. — GE is rolling out an expanded collection of slate-finish kitchen appliances next month.

Slate was introduced a year ago as a fashionable alternative to stainless steel. The low-gloss, warm metallic gray matte finish is resistant to fingerprints, and has exceeded GE’s expectations in sales and popularity.

“Beating our sales forecast proves there is a strong demand for this premium finish,” said Brian McWaters, brand general manager for GE Appliances. Indeed, surveys by TWICE research partner and former GE division The Stevenson Company show that 78 percent of respondents were somewhat or very likely to purchase slate when replacing all kitchen appliances.

McWaters said consumers and designers have embraced the finish as a contemporary alternative to stainless, and for its ability to complement a wide range of high-end tile, cabinetry and flooring finishes.

GE is capitalizing on slate’s popularity by doubling the number of models and configurations that feature it. The complete expanded line, which should hit retail floors by October, includes ranges, over-the-range microwaves, side-by-side refrigerators, top mount refrigerators, a 33-inch French door refrigerator and new front- and top-control dishwashers.

Manufacturer suggested retails range from $599 to $2,699, GE said.
