Sharp Extends Range

Sharp Electronics, whose white goods offerings had been limited to microwave ovens and other small majaps, has entered the full-size appliance arena with its multifunctional Insight Range.

The 30-inch wide unit, which debuted at this month’s Kitchen/Bath Industry Show here, pairs a smooth glass cooktop and conventional or convection oven with what the company is calling “the world’s first” microwave drawer.

According to director of marketing Dennis Joyner, Insight leverages Sharp’s track record in microwave performance and space-saving designs with a fully featured and attractively styled range. “Our research has shown that the microwave oven is the most frequently used cooking appliance in the kitchen,” he said. “The Insight Range combines our microwave technology into a sleek range package, delivering the ultimate in cooking convenience and style.”

The microwave drawer, which opens automatically on select models, incorporates the company’s sensor cooking technology for superior cooking results and a smooth floor for easy clean up. The range itself features front-mounted glass touch controls and, on select models, true European-style high velocity convection cooking for even heat, consistent temperature and high-speed results.

The Insight also boasts an LCD touch screen that simplifies the cooking process with step-by-step instructions, convection recipe conversions and helpful tips, plus an adjustable backsplash that can match the height of existing wall treatments.

Shipping will begin in the fourth quarter with electric freestanding and slide-in models in stainless, black and white finishes. Pricing was not yet set at press time.
