Benton Harbor, Mich.— Whirlpool has been cited by the AARP (the Association for the Advancement of Retired Persons) as one of the country's 50 best employers for workers over 50, and as one of the six best companies for 50-plus workers within its home state of Michigan.
The association based its selection on health benefits, workforce age, alternative work arrangements and retirement benefits. “This award is a testament to the dedication of our employees and to the company's worldwide efforts to foster a diverse and inclusive environment,” said David Binkley, senior VP/global human resources.
Qingdao, China — Haier Group has been selected as the official home appliances sponsor of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The company, headquartered here in this co-host city for the Games' sailing events, is the largest majap maker in China and is the corporate parent of Haier America, based in New York. In its sponsorship role, Haier will provide products, funds and services to the Beijing Games, the 2008 Paralympic Games, the Chinese Olympic Committee and other related groups.
