2010 Majap Sales Up Low Double-Digits: NPD
PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. — Retail sales of major appliances rose 11
percent in dollars and 12 percent in units last year, The NPD Group reported.
While overall sell-through did not reach pre-recession levels, majap
rebates and vendor promotions supported several category standouts.
Ovens, although one of the smaller volume categories, showed the
most significant growth, with a 42 percent gain in dollars and a 35 percent
increase in units year over year. Dishwashers also put in a strong
performance in 2010, with dollar volume up 22 percent over 2009,
matching 2007 levels, NPD said. Full-size refrigerators and range hoods
both experienced double-digit unit and dollar growth, compared with
2009, with laundry categories right on their heels at just less 10 percent
dollar growth for the year.
