AHAM Urges ‘Smart’ Majap Incentive

WASHINGTON — The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) and coalition of energy efficiency advocates has petitioned the Energy Star program to incorporate a 5 percent credit to the efficiency level required to meet eligibility criteria for smart-grid-enabled appliances. The groups said the incentive will increase the deployment of “smart” majaps across the country, which could help reduce expensive peak-demand power and cut electricity usage by more than 4 percent annually by 2030.

“A credit of 5 percent is a significant incentive for manufacturers to produce smart appliances,” said AHAM president Joseph McGuire.
