Electrolux Adding Infrastructure In Tennessee

MEMPHIS, TENN. —

Electrolux Major Appliances North
America (EMA-NA) broke ground this month on two major
construction projects in Tennessee.

The company is converting its cooking products manufacturing
facility in Springfield into an R&D center and
purchasing headquarters for cooking products in North
America. The expanded site will also house Electrolux’s
global development center for white-goods electronics.

In turn, the manufacturer is building a new cooking
products manufacturing plant in
Memphis that will serve North
America.

The $5 million Springfield
expansion will add worldclass
cooking laboratories
and development facilities to
the former cooking factory,
Electrolux said. The project
will add 21,000 square feet
over three stories, as well as
about 75 new engineering and
technical jobs when it is completed
in January. A renovation
of current office space is also
underway and expected to be
completed by the end of October.

“We are excited to take on a growing role for Electrolux
by leveraging this location for not only our North American
cooking manufacturing facilities, but also cooking facilities
worldwide with the addition of global electronics at this
plant,” said John Terzo, VP and general manager for EMA-NA
cooking products. “We are very pleased to continue making
significant investments in our facilities in Springfield and adding
a global role to our expertise in cooking products.”

Electrolux said it chose Memphis as the site of the relocated
cooking plant due to its proximity to Springfield and
other nearby company facilities, as well as its skilled labor
pool, central location, and excellent logistics, which will
improve access to key markets, customers and suppliers.

The new plant will produce Electrolux, Electrolux Icon
and Frigidaire brand built-in and specialty products including
drop-in/slide-in ranges, wall
ovens, specialty freestanding
ranges, and cooktops. The
factory, located in Frank C.
Pidgeon Industrial Park, will
employ more than 1,200 workers
when it becomes fully operational
in 2014.

“With the addition of [these
facilities], Tennessee will become
the North American
Center of Excellence for Electrolux
cooking product development
and manufacturing,”
said Jack Truong, president/
CEO of EMA-NA. “The state of
Tennessee has been very supportive of Electrolux over the
years and we appreciate their continued support.”

EMA-NA is the second-largest employer among manufacturing
sites in Tennessee. The company had 52,000
employees across the U.S. and posted domestic sales of
$14.7 billion last year.
