Toshiba Updates Netbooks, Bows Best Buy Laptop

LAS VEGAS —

Toshiba will bring an updated
netbook line to International CES, as
well as a new laptop that will sell exclusively
through Best Buy.

The netbook category will remain important
to Toshiba, despite the overlap that will
likely take place between these products
and the upcoming tablets, said Phil Osako,
Toshiba’s product marketing director, digital
products division.

Giving the netbook category some extra
life are consumers looking to get some additional
productivity out of their netbook.

In order to deliver a better experience for
these customers, Toshiba is adding an Intel
Dual Core Atom processor with its new
E309. This $399 has a new brushed-aluminum
lid and textured finish.

Toshiba also has the new entry-level NB
500 at $299. It holds the same feature
specs as the company’s previous price leader
model, but adds a soft rubberized lid and
comes in blue, orange and brown.

The Satellite E 305 will sell exclusively
through Best Buy. Osako said this is the
third year the two companies have collaborated
on a laptop. This model will ship in the
spring and has not been priced.

It will have a 14-inch display, weigh less
than 5 pounds, use an Intel next-generation
processor, and feature a new industrial design
with a brushed-aluminum chassis.

Other features include a 500GB hard drive
with 4GB of flash memory, Intel’s wireless
display technology, USB 3.0 and 4G Wimax.
A Blu-ray drive will be standard.
