Photochannel Demos Wi-Fi Printing Solution
Orlando, Fla. — PhotoChannel Networks announced the launch of its PhotoChannel Wi-Fi Mobile Printing solution, which allows retailers to receive digital photo orders from Wi-Fi-enabled devices in public hotspots. Using proximity sensing technology and a third party hotspot, consumers can automatically identify and transmit photos to the closest retailer in the PhotoChannel Network. Those images are then printed in-store. PhotoChannel is rolling the technology out to its partner retailers immediately.

Umax Intros New Scanner
Orlando, Fla. — Umax announced it would ship its new Astra 6700 flatbed scanner this month. The unit offers a resolution of 2400 by 4800 dpi, 48-bit scanning, one-touch buttons for e-mail, scan and copy, and USB 2.0 connectivity. It offers a built-in transparency cover for negative scanning up to 4 by 5 inches. It will retail for a suggested $149.95.

SmartDisk Bows Portable Image Storage
Orlando, Fla. — SmartDisk introduced a portable image storage product called FotoChute, that lets users offload digital images directly from a camera via USB. The 20GB drive can also serve as an external hard drive. It will ship in March for a suggested retail price of $249.99.

X2 Puts Photos in Portable
Orlando, Fla. — X2 added an SD/MMC card slot to its Mega View 566 multimedia portable to enable the device to run photo slide shows and store photo albums. The device, which was launched at CES, will ship this month for a suggested retail price under $450. Aside from displaying digital images, the device can play Motion JPEG and MPEG-4 video, serve as a PVR, play MP3 music files and FM radio, function as a voice recorder and as a portable hard drive. It features a 3.5 inch LCD screen and can play music files while running photo slide shows.

Triscape Upgrades FxFoto Imaging Software
Orlando, Fla. — Software publisher Triscape upgraded its FxFoto 3.0 Standard, Deluxe Collage, and Pro Media editions. The company added over 50 artistic filters, new creative text effects, red eye enhancements, click and drag themes and text inclusion into images, stretchable frames, and a modified toolbar. The new version also provides a new upload wizard that lets users send images to new online photo printing Web-sites including abcphotolab.com, Smugmug.com, MediaStreet.com and Myphotoalbum.com. Triscape provides FxFoto 3.0 as a free download. Deluxe, with more creative project options, costs $29.99, and Pro Media, with movie publishing to disk and other advanced features, sells for $39.99.
