IRVINE, CALIF. — Toshiba debuted its first consumer-aimed Pocket PC for retail, the e310. It features a 3.5-inch TFT with 240 x 320-color resolution and runs on an Intel 206 StrongARM processor. The unit has a sleek design, weighs less than 5 ounces and ships with 32 MB of RAM and ROM. The e310 has an SD slot and Windows Media Player 8 for audio playback. Toshiba claims the unit has an extended battery life about 10 hours longer than existing Pocket PCs. The e310 is shipping now at an estimated price of $399.
ANAHEIM, CALIF. — U.S. Robotics, once known as the premier supplier of modems has reinvented itself as a producer of home networking equipment. At RetailVision, held here last month, the company showed three new 802.11b 22MBps wireless products that will ship in June. The rollout starts with the USR Wireless Access Point, $199 suggested retail price, and also includes the USR Wireless Access PC Card, $99 suggested retail price and a wireless PCI adapter card with a $119 suggested retail price.
FREMONT, CALIF. — Lexar Media announced last week a new program that allows customers to trade-in unwanted Microdrives in any capacity and any condition for $100 toward the purchase of a Lexar Media 16X-speed 1 Gigabyte CompactFlash card or $50 toward the purchase of a Lexar Media16X-speed 640 Megabyte CompactFlash card. The program runs through May 31, 2002 and is available to participating Lexar Media authorized professional dealers throughout the United States. The program is being pitched as an opportunity for consumers to enjoy the benefits of solid state media, which is what CompactFlash is. The instant rebate is given to customers at the time of purchase and the surrendered Microdrive need not be in working condition. Limit one rebate per Microdrive trade-in.
