Dell Goes After Mobile Gaming Market

Dell pushed its way further into the gaming market with the introduction of a high-end notebook that utilizes the Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition processor.

Dell is touting the Inspiron XPS as a top-of-the-line unit. In the XPS’ ultimate configuration, it is powered by a 3.4GHz Pentium 4 Extreme Edition with Hyper-Threading Technology chip and has an 800MHz front-side bus for fast memory processing and image rendering. It has 2GB of DDR Dual Channel RAM, a 15.4-inch display and a choice of several high-end graphic cards. Dell is now offering this model at $2,500, after $250 rebate.

Dell is not counting only on the unit’s working parts to attract the computer gaming set with more than just high-powered features. Dell is offering it in four chassis designs, three of which resemble the “skins” from a computer audio player, the fourth is a conventional Dell look.

Dell entered the gaming PC market last September with its introduction of the Dimension XPS.
