Brother Fleshes Out Inkjet MFC Line

Brother today introduced three inkjet based multifunction copiers for consumers and the SoHo market.

These four units complete Brothers’ revamp of its inkjet MFC line that started in July. The units feature print, copy, fax and scanning capabilities with suggested retail prices ranging from $99 to $179 and shipping in October.

All incorporate Brother’s new industrial design that has moved the inkjet cartridges to the MFC’s front panel for easier replacement. The USB port also was shifted from the rear panel to a spot inside the MFC. The USB cable is snaked through an internal channel, saving desk space by eliminating the protruding rear connector.

Brother also enhanced the photo printing capability implementing a print engine that produces a smaller droplet size and for the first time the company will sell Brother branded photo paper optimized for use with these printers, said Joyce Brittingham, Brother’s senior product manager, imaging and document products.

The new models are the MFC-3360c, MFC-5460cn and MFC-5860cn. The entry-level piece features a 25 page per minute speed for text with 20ppm delivered for color, copy speeds of 18ppm text and 16ppm color and a scan resolution of 600 by 2,400dpi. The step up models share several features including Ethernet networking, print speeds of 30ppm for text and 25ppm color, copy rates of 22ppm and 20ppm and 1,200 by 2,400 scan-resolution.
